Story Portrait
Together with Droga5, we turned New York Times’ "Independent journalism for an independent life" campaign into something every reader can have. "Story Portrait" is a data-driven commemorable artifact that pulls headlines from your New York Times reading history to paint a portrait of your independent life, designed with the colors of the sections they engage with most.
Story Portrait was The Times' most engaging onsite brand asset to date, with over 200,000 unique portraits made—truly a feat of man, AI, and journalism.
As seen in Ad Age, Muse, and LBB. Winner of D&AD Wood Pencil
Role: Motion Designer

We developed an algorithm that strings together a connected thread of headlines to perfectly fill the screen with your life. You can shuffle the headlines until you’re happy. The colors of your most-read sections blend together to create a more personal and unique composition. Users are invited to save and share their unique profiles with the #StoryPortrait.

As an extension of our campaign, we engaged in social-forward initiatives to raise awareness for Story Portrait. Collaborating with influencers, such as Cooking with Lynja (@cookingwithlynja), we brought the campaign to life with two engaging posts. In these, our favorite TikTok grandma shared her unique experience creating a Story Portrait, inviting her audience to explore the transformative impact of The Times' journalism.
